Mal Duncan “4 for 40” Scholarship Application.

 The family of Mal Duncan has established a scholarship in honor of his memory. Mr. Duncan
served as a deacon at the Antioch Baptist church for many years and he was also employed at
John Deere as an engineer. He enjoyed advising and mentoring students in groups and one on
Mr. Duncan believed that persistence in education would be beneficial for a life time. He talked
to students about making a sacrifice for a few years to receive a quality education as an
investment in their future. His slogan was “4 for 40”, 4 years of hard work during their college
years in order to be prepared for various career opportunities during the next 40 years of
A five hundred dollars ($500.00) scholarship will be awarded to an African American high
school graduate.

- Maintain a 2.75 or higher cumulative grade point average
- Good leadership qualities
- Admitted to a 4 year college/university in an accredited natural science or mathematics program
- African-American Waterloo/ Cedar Falls area high school senior

Write a short essay entitled: Why I should receive a Mal Duncan
 “4 for 40" Scholarship to study mathematics or natural sciences. Attach
 essay to the application. Provide specifics and details. Use the opportunity
 to showcase yourself

**Provide three (3) letters of recommendations
that include address and phone numbers (no relatives)

All applications must include an official copy of your high school transcripts. If a
transcript is not provided, the application will automatically be disqualified. Be
certain that all items on the application are completed. Incomplete applications will
also be disqualified. Applications (with essay and transcripts) must be completed by
midnight March 31, 2018.
